Independent Living at New Horizons

Passion... Purpose... Possibilities

For other individuals desiring a community lifestyle, but who need few or no personal care services, one, two or three-room suites are available at New Horizons. Residents in New Horizons' Independent Living apartments enjoy full privacy plus a meaningful social-living atmosphere. New Horizons provides a 24-hour receptionist, weekly housekeeping with linen service, scheduled local transportation, and a very broad program of available activities.

Additionally, Independent Living residents at New Horizons enjoy three delicious meals served daily in an elegantly casual dining room. The complete seven day-a-week activity program includes shopping and educational trips, plus a full medley of recreational and social programs. It also includes exercise classes, as well as an indoor heated pool featuring water aerobics classes. There are also weekly religious services for Jewish and Protestant residents, plus daily Catholic Mass.

Many residents who come to New Horizons after living alone for a long period of time experience remarkable transformations. People who did not even realize they had become inward and withdrawn become their old selves again, sometimes to the complete astonishment of their families. Suddenly they are making new friends, developing new interests and discovering altogether new reasons to enjoy each day.

On the other hand, there are lots of people who discover old friends almost as soon as they move in. One woman in her late 60's, met her own first grade teacher, and then, later the same day she met her high school boyfriend elsewhere in the building! Many new residents need a little coaxing at first to join activities, but they are never coerced. Almost all residents like to just sit around sometimes, often just to see who will drop by and sit with them.

IMPORTANT DISCLOSURE: Although most seniors would prefer assisted living over nursing home residence, assisted living facilities in Massachusetts may not provide 24-hour skilled nursing care, and they are not appropriate for everyone. Residents come and go as they wish. They are not under constant oversight, and sometimes they make choices that may not appear
to be in their own best interests. New Horizons is a not-for-profit community which provides personalized supportive services with the activies of daily living, but does not, and can not, monitor its residents.
