Community History

Passion... Purpose... Possibilities

There are very few things more important to the full enjoyment of our retirement years than good health, companionship, and comfort in the place we choose to live. Better retirement communities such as this offer a country inn-like atmosphere at a cost that is almost always less than the overall cost of living alone in a home.

Every day, the choices we make determine the quality of our lives. As we grow older, it is often desirable to alter our housing arrangements while adapting to our changing circumstances. Locating a community that provides a caring, convenient environment, and meets our personal needs, becomes more important with each passing year.

Although there is often a short waiting list for new residents, that usually means a waiting time of no more than one or two months.

Boston Retirement Community

Our 40 acre campus is much more than a housing development for seniors. Rather, it is a beautiful community where programs, recreation, and services are designed specifically for individuals. Our large, indoor heated swimming pool is only one of the features many residents use to maintain their vitality and their interest in continuing to live a full and active life. Although New Horizons is a completely non-sectarian private facility, there are weekly Protestant and Jewish religious services and daily Catholic Mass in a beautiful, 140-seat chapel. Living here will enable many to age-in-place and postpone or avoid altogether any need to move in with family members or to a nursing home in later years.

Metrowest Independent and Assisted Living

New Horizons Retirement Community is proud to offer a very attractive living arrangement for active individuals or couples who simply don't want to live alone anymore, or who want the convenience of knowing that help is nearby if needed. Similarly, other parts of this fine community are ideal for those who need some level of assistance with their daily responsibilities.

Home-cooked meals perhaps do the most for our fine reputation, because the exquisite dining rooms always seem to become the center of everyone's attention - at least three times every day. Meal quality, variety, nutrition, and overall appeal become extraordinarily important as we enjoy our later years.

There is abundant free parking for residents who drive, and a very efficient private bus that many residents use for local-area shopping trips, medical appointments, etc., at no extra cost, even if they still drive. Of course, many services may also be brought "to the door" for those residents who wish. Domino's and Papa Gino's pizza deliveries come into our neighborhood, just like they visit every other neighborhood in town!

All suites are fully private, with accommodating oversized bathrooms, large kitchens or mini-kitchenettes, and plenty of large windows. Units in the main New Horizons building are serviced with emergency call systems, as well as full telephone, cable, and Internet capability. There is an office on-site for visiting physicians, and New Horizons enjoys a "preferred provider" arrangement with nearby Marlborough Hospital / UMASS Medical Center. The two newest buildings on our campus, The Meadows at 370 and 420 Hemenway Street, earned EPA's Energy Star rating in 2003 for overall energy efficiency.

An on-site home health agency provides personal care services, on request, for residents in the assisted living and independent sections of New Horizons. It operates a wellness office in The Meadows, the most independent living program, and also runs the Physical Therapy Center. Additionally, it provides 24-hour on-site licensed nurse coverage, including emergency services for residents in both New Horizons and in the 154 fully independent units of The Meadows.

Enjoy a unique combination of independent living arrangements with ready access to a wide variety of medical and social services. Through constant attention to the needs of its residents, our fine, experienced staff provides warm and comfortable homes for those who can live independently, and will provide that extra personalized support for those who may need assistance. Residents may select exactly the program that is right for them.
